This is the first Ford I have just bought, so dont go laughing just yet.
I need to know how to check if my car has the original 390 in it or some junkyard motor. The motor is a ford one, but I need to know where the numbers are, and as for that matter, where is the VIN located? It is kinda weird because I bought the car and the motor looked like it just got dropped into it. I need to know some numbers to see if it matches. Please be descriptive, as I have no idea what I am doing. More of a Buick guy until now.

Does anyone know anything about where I can find number on my Block, or where to find the VIN on the car?

The Fe engines do not have part #'s on them, You have to check the stroke to be sure. But the 390 engine was a standard in the 67's. The vin # should be on the drivers door and on the frame, I think on the passenger side, but check with your local DMV and they can tell you for sure.

Go here to decode your VIN http://66ford.fordregistries.com/ Go to the DECODE YOUR VIN section and it should help even though the site is for 1966 fords.

On the passenger side of the engine at the bottom you will find a number that will tell you the year of the engine so you will know that you have the right year it will look like something like -C7ME- C is '60's 7 is '67 ME ? for me. Earlier in that year could read -C6__-
On the drivers side above the oil filter below the head is a letter that will tell you the engine type But all my books tell me ford did not keep acrit numbers or letters. Checking the stroke and bore is the best way to know the engine type
