confused freeze plugs

I know this mauy sound crazy, but I have forgotten what it means when a freeze plug comes out on its own? Is it serious or do this things happen and all you have to do is replace it? Its the one next to the motor mount, thanks.

Re: freeze plugs

Sometimes a freeze plug can come out of a block and it does not mean there is any serious trouble. Replace the plug and monitor it for leak for the next few days.

Never-never seen a freeze plug come out on its own--seen them rust out and leak--seen them pop out when engine subjected to freezing temp. without antifreeze--replace and look at complete engine for other leaks--watch for oil, water mixing as sign of cracked block--bob
