i will have the heads off my 1964 390 that is out of a galaxie xl and i was thinking about changing the heads and manifold-any suggestions either off other motors or different years or purchased new or just leave these on?Also running on a generator how do i and how hard is it to switch over to alternater?

Is this a 4v manifold? If it is, I would just stay with the heads and intake that you have. Sorry, I don't have a anser about the generator, I also still run one, it is the same one that came with the car when I got it in 1973.

Best would be to locate an alternator from a 1965 and up Galaxie with the big blocks. Make sure you take all the alternator support brackets , the voltage regulator and the wiring harness. If your not having any problems with the generator leave well enough alone, they run fine with those old galaxies. They also can be rebuilt or located through swapmeets and auto wreckers who deal with the old cars.

The gen to alt conversion is easy. C.R.A.P (custom replacement auto parts or something like that..) sells a bolt on conversion bracket for the older blocks. They sell on ebay. You can also drill and tap the hole needed for the bracket easy nuff too. That's what i've always done on my older 406 blocks. As far as heads go if you have the C4-G lowriser heads port them and install larger CJ 2.09 1.65 valves. This will come very close to a set of warmed over Edels. Or if you have the money to burn and want iron heads look for a set of C8OE-N CJ heads. Edelbrocks are the best bang for the buck for aluminum. I like the oem parts. They work well and have the least amount of fitment issues. Maybe consiter a nice 3x2 tripower or 2x4 dual quad setup? They look pretty slick and you can still find deals on these sometimes if your in the right place at the right time. just a few thoughts...
