I'm trying to take the door panel off....

My window wont crank upwards so I need to take the door panel off but I ran into a problem. I took off all the screw's but I can figure out how to take the window cranks off? Can any of you please tell me how to do this? Thanks.

Re: I'm trying to take the door panel off....

Hi, if you got the screws out of the window crank and door pull handle you need a special tool to spread the spring between the door panel and the crank and door handle and they will pull off. A thin flat blade screw driver will also do the trick but its more difficult but be patient. You will have to put the crank in the position so you can see the ends of the spring clip and usually if you can pry it open a little and pull on the crank it should come off. To replace, position the spring clip on the crank and door handle and just push them and they should snap on. Hope this is of some help.

I've heard theres a trick to this that involves using a shoprag- not sure but sounds like fold a shoprag and pull it under the handle- I guess it can snag the clips and release them without chance of damaging the panel- I'll do some lookin to see if I can find the exact lowdown on doing this...

Cool Thanks. I'll try the rag thing later today. I remember when I was little the in my dad's 64 mustang I pulled off the crank's by just pulling really hard on them. I guess I was stronger when I was 7 years old. ;p

Re: I'm trying to take the door panel off....

Well I got the door panel off and found out the reason that the window won't crank all the way up. A strip of metal was laying at the base of the door. I can't figure out where it's supposed to go. It's a metal strip about 16 inches long. It has a channel where a little wheel would go and 2 metal tab's welded on that are about 3.5 inches wide by 2 inches high. It has no bolt holes. There is a small wheel on the arm that pushes the window up but if I put the strip on that it just fall's off as soon as I crank it up all the way. I also found 3 zip ties at the base of the door. I'm guessing someone zip tied the strip to something to temporarily fix the window. I'll post a picture tomorrow so you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about.
