Looking to buy a 67 Country Sedan, what to look for?

Like it says, I'm looking at a 67 Country Sedan (wagon) for sale this weekend.

It's got a rebuilt 390 with 6k mi since the rebuild. Owner claims it's running strong. Still has a stock 2bbl carb (which will be the first thing go). Transmission is original and he says it hasn't given him any problems.

Just to get my facts straight, it should have a C4 and 9", right?

It's got power steering and power brakes (drums up front). The front end has been rebuilt.

The interior is in relatively crappy shape, and red, which is not a favorite of mine, so it's probably on its way out.

Per his description, there are no rust issues except for the tailgate, which is apparently kinda bad. The rear window works with the key in the door, but not with the dash switch.

Basically, it's in pretty good mechanical shape, with an assortment of cosmetic issues.

It's listed at $3000.

I know how to look over a used car in general, but I was wondering if there's anything specific I should look out for, namely things that can get really expensive or time consuming to replace or deal with...the kind of stuff that screams "stay away!"...or at least requires a drop in price.

...also, what do you think of that price?

I'm generally planning to make a daily driver/cruiser out of it. Probably do some light modernization, disc brakes, electronic ignition, under/overdrive unit, maybe AC. Not really going to be king of the drag strip, but hopefully to embarrass a few V6 camaro drivers now and then.

Thanks. Hope to be among your ranks soon.

rust is the enemy, wiggle under it and check the frame out good, rear quarters, and above the rear side windows(mine has rust there, not sure if its common). should have a c6 but anything is possible, definitely a 9". copy down all the info from the door tag and vin, i have a book that can tell u a lot of info on the car. see if he has receipts for the engine build, if mechanicals and body are in good shape i'd say $3k is a good price.

you might want go to The Ford Galaxie Club of America...Welcomes You! -The Ford Galaxie Club of America is an association of owners dedicated to the restoration, preservation and enjoyment of the Galaxie passenger automobiles built by the Ford Motor Company from the years 1959 through 1974. The main goal of the Ford Galaxie Club of America is to unite 1959 to 1974 Galaxie owners the world over; and to preserve the name Galaxie and its association as one of the first muscle cars of the 60’s in perpetuity. and I believe the director of the club has a 67 wagon and is quite familiar with any problems.
I use to have a 67 shop manual and besides the 9" rear there was a
9-3/8' rear too, it was listed in the shop manual, not many out there know that, what it was used for I don't know, but probably for the high performance and heavy duty wagons.
3k sound not too bad, you can always offer a little less and see what happens.
