Hi fella's.

I have been trying to locate the source of the 1973 to 1979 P5 and P6 terminology for quite a while now. That is, where did Ford get the 'P' from. I have read on another forum that these cars were supposed to be called FA and FB, so as to line up with the 1979 FC LTD.

What I thought maybe was that the Galaxie and American LTD's imported in the late '60s and early 70's may give some clues as to the 'P' identification. I recently bought a 1967 through to 1971 Galaxie/LTD parts catalogue but there is no reference to P1, 2 or 3. There are lots of XR, XT and XW prefixes to part numbers as well as GG and GH (not sure what these last ones?? Galaxie/LTD perhaps?)

At any rate, any one that has a circa 70/71 model LTD (with australian compliance plates), can you please tell me what it says on your compliance plates. That is, does it even have the typical Oz plates or are the longer type American ones.

ps with respect to part numbers, anything with a prefix of 'PL' relates to a '73 through to '76 P5 LTD/Landau and PM relates to the '76 through to '79 P6 Rolls Royce grill LTD's.

Well from memory my galaxie doesnt even say galaxie on the VIN tag, says Ford Sedan. Its an australian made galaxie so yeah...
