Hello everyone Im new here and have a question no one will answer or knows

My dad passed away and left me his 1964 ford Galaxie 500 XL with the 390 It only has about 42,000 miles but sat forever.

My question is the VIN Number 4P66Z147560 I was told the Z in the VIN is Rare is this True

Your VIN number is as follows:
4 = 1964, P = Assembly plant....which was Twin Cities, 66 = 2 Door fastback.
Z = engine code, which was the 390 cu. in. 4 barrel carb. 147560 = forty seven thousand five hundred and sixtieth car (consecutive assembly number)
My info was taken from the 1963 Ford breakdown codes. Now my code 66 reads 2 Door Fastback, but code 68 reads 2 Door Fastback for the Galaxie 500XL. So for 1964 I would assume code 66 is used for the 500XL 2 Door. The 390 cu. in is not rare, there were lots 64 Fords built with 390's.

Considering its in great shape 42,000 nice inside needs paint outside

I could not give you any kind of price quote, would have to actually see the vehicle, but would suggest you ask some 'old car' guys or someone in a car club. Also there are car magazines with price guides in them. Too bad you couldn't keep it and enjoy the pride of owning an old cruiser, those galaxies are great highway cars.
