Power Window Solution

When I purchased my 67 XL Convertible, the owner told me that the power window motors would need to be replaced. As he has infinitely more knowledge about cars in general, and Galaxies specifically, I didn't doubt him.
However, being a network engineer, I began to think this over. Despite the fact that the car is nearly 40 years old, what are the odds that ALL four motors are dead as bricks? Well, I have the shop manual for the car, and I happen to know an electrician.
Today, him and I looked over the schematics and took a multimeter to the car. As it turns out, not even the switches were getting power. So, looking at the schematics, it was evident that there exists a power window safety relay.
Well, I took it out (it's under the hood) and disassembled it. The coil was all melted like . . . so that was a pretty obvious smoking gun.
Called the parts stores, and of course none of them have one. Called the Ford parts house, same story. Discontinued part. Fortunately for me, my friend being an electrician, he knew what generic part to use to replace this. It was simple . . . just a 15 amp relay.
So, all four motors work just fine, but the windows need a little coaxing. So, what they probably need is a good lube for rails and gears . . .

Re: Power Window Solution

getting those motors isnt a big deal, theyre the same up through the 90s. my relay was just a pile of dust on the inside and my motors all had dried up grease packed against the gears, took them apart cleaned em up and regreased them. now they go fast enough to eject the window out the roof :s4

Re: Power Window Solution

Yeah, I'm dreading disassembling the doors to get to all of this stuff. Will it be sufficient to remove only the door interior (sorry, don't know the proper name for it)?
