All full size Fords have mostly they same style rear end assemblies from 1960-64, after that the hook up assembly to the frame was different because Ford changed from leaf springs to coil on the rear axle. Station wagons and convertibles had the heavier axle and usually a four pinion spider gear set up and 31 spline axle while sedans and hardtops had 28 spline and 2 pinion spider gears unless they were high performance vehicles then they all had the heavier rear end setup. Ratios were 3-1, 3:25-1, 3:50-1, depending on engine size and transmission. You could also get the equa-lock rear end as optional equipment or commonly known as posi-trac.
