Question Shifter Problems Please Help

I have a 64 Galaxie 500 XL 2 door Fast Back -
Engine 77 351 M with C4 Trans both from a Fseries Truck.
Shifter on floor - appears stock to car. The Transmission will lock in park but the shifter does not. Because of that, when the car is reved up, or is at a fast idle (warming up) long enough, it will shift the trans into reverse. The push button is frozen and does not move. I pulled the shifter cover plates off and just put the ball back on the shifter - it goes all the way forward, but does not lock. Any suggestions or does anyone know where i can get an assembly guide for this.

Hello, I would email the director of the Galaxie club and he might be able to direct you to some info on that as long as you say the shifter appears stock to the car. His email address is director@galaxieclub.com or www.galaxieclub.com for the website. Also for an exploded view of the shifter you will have to get hold of a shop manual (they are on Ebay) or try your local library. I have a fair knowledge of the 63-64 Galaxies, but never worked on a floor shifter set up.

Someone may have rotated the shifter 180 degrees when they fitted the 351M and Auto. I once fitted a 400 ci engine and Auto from a 1971 Galaxie Sedan which was column Auto to a Ford Falcon and the Trans did not have the correct double sided selector shaft bracket for a T-Bar and one of the ways I could of got it to work was to fit a shifter backwards and sacrifice the Park Lockout.
