I have seen a picture of a small dickie seat in an xr ute.
It involves removing the centre arm rest and installing a fixed centre seat and fold down backrest to form new arm rest.
Apparently the seat is only suitable for a child up to about 9yrs( which suits me)
You can have the hand brake removed and relocated to door side.
Has any body in SA had this done any additional info would be great.
I have the leather interior so i want it look 'factory'.

Like i said its only suitable for a child so the kids legs either straddles the remainder of the consule or puts their legs to one side. With an auto the gear shift i think wont be a huge problem.
Its not ideal but it beats having to have bench seat just to accomodate taking two kids occasionly.
It apparently can be approved with an engineers certificate.

JAMRC, do you have the XR ute currently? Which model? Assuming a BA, do they have the mounting points etc for the centre seat belt (which is now lap-sash in BAs - there is a large bulge for the retractor on the rear wall of the cab)? You would need to remove the centre console, not sure what you would replace it with unless you chop one in half. I can't recall exactly how the AU/BA centre seat is mounted, I think it is separate from the drivers seat but attached to the passengers, although a separate cushion. Either use that, or mount it fixed, and retrim the seat cushion to match your leather trim. I would expect seatbelt mounting points and so on you require are already there, so getting it approved would be straightforward.

yeah, the AU has it fixed to the passenger seat so it slides forward and back simultaneously

The other thing is the normal centre seat has a lever to fold down the backrest to use as an armrest. It then has a small gap underneath which is the perfect size to hold a Melways!

I do have the ute now and it is a BA.
You are right from advice ive been given a new fixed seat cushion is made up in matching leather. The centre console is cut in front of the cup holders.
The small back rest is hinged to form armrest which is essential for comfort.
I beleive the mounting holes are there for seat belt.
I have been quoted $1200.00 all up in matching leather.(inc Engineers report)
These guys have done a couple before for local Ford dealers.
I will post pictures once ive had it done.

i've got an XB fairmont dickie seat thing between my buckets in the XE UTE
console cut in half after gearshift
seat folds into an armrest that may be modified for cup holders and lap sash seat belts as mine was originally a bench seat anyway

Nothing like doubling your passenger carrying capacity! I don't use the middle seat in mine very much but it is handy when you need it.
