The 600-hp Raptor 600, the undisputed hero of March's Melbourne motor show, is to form the basis of an all-Australian attempt on a world land speed record. The ute, based on a Ford BA Falcon ute and developed by Roman Autotek in collaboration with Hillier Conversions, will hit racetracks as it prepares for an all-out assualt on the Australian land speed record.
The Raptor attempt at the Land Speed Record for its class is scheduled to take place on Lake Gairdner late in 2003. If this is successful, the organisers have every intention of challenging the world record. The Raptor is a gullwinged version of the BA Falco0n Ute with a highly strung turbocharged six-cylinder engine producing in excess of 600hp. A second versions, based on the XR8 ute is envisaged, with Roman Autotek suggesting 1200hp is not out of the question.

Minge, I'm pretty sure that at the show the ute just had the stock XR6T motor - with possibly an XR8 bonnet (hmmm, where have I heard that idea before), could be wrong there, don't have photos.
I've gotta be honest, I couldn't care less about this ute.
It seems like one huge (and ridiculous) publicity stunt. After seeing it at the MMS, I'm still trying to figure out WTF cost $300,000.
I've loved all the Hilliers work before, and most of Bob Romans, but I just can't get the thought out of the back of my mind that this is just all one big stupid wank.
Sorry guys, just my 2c.
Cheers
Jason.

I sorta agree with you Jason but at least it's not Ford spending $300K, it's Hilliers/Autotek.
