BA Ute Fuel Release - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

I bought a BA XR8 Ute, cost a fair wack over 40K and doesn't even have a remote fuel release in the cabin - pathetic given that a 14K Hyundai has one. I took it to Ford today to get a number of minor problems sorted - one being the lack of any remote fuel release. Initally, the service manager told me that ute's dont have the remote fuel release because they cannot run the cable through the cabin to the styleside box. The owners manual refers to the remote fuel release. Has anyone who owns a AU/BA ute out there questioned this?

No, no AU or BA utes have remote fuel releases.

Eeven my (cough) exxy Pursuit 290 doesn't have one. So welcome to 'Not-Hyundai' (TM) world.

Doesnt take much to open now does it?
You gotta go there to undo the cap anyhow then fill up, and the flap isnt tight!

With the BA service manual, the book covers the whole range, and lists certain attributes/ functions of the various models...maybe you were either confusing model description or there is a misprint in the manual

I think it's a poor state of affairs. Now, after spending well over $60k I've got to get myself to Ford spares to buy a lockable fuel cap. My issue isn't losing fuel - it's what someone might put in the tank!

Yes, after spending a fair amount of money on a car only to realise that a 'fuel release' isn't even part of the package. It states that the fuel release is a standard part of the vehicle in the 'ford ute' manual. One would assume that it would be part of an XR8 or FPV Pursuit package. The security issue is also important - getting some jealous fella pour sugar in your tank...

spent $8 on a lockable cap ... though Ford assured me that there was a mesh down the feed pipe that prevented anyone from stealing fuel and a lockable cap was not necessary ...

on the XRs there is only one remote keyless entry pad too ... great is you spend $900 bucks on an alarm with one pad !!!
.... another $80 spent .....

while I'm at it ... no lockable wheel nuts for 17"s .....
oh well, my dealer was tiring of my whinging and gave in .. threw a set in ... wow

oh ... "the flying ute object" ------ a killer car jack on the loose is far more effective than the ABS ... :)

ordinary.. (like not painting the bottom of the doors)

gotta love the car though ... lol

Yeah, I fitted the cabin tidy in my ute - now I'm REALLY stuffed for a place to put the jack!

Mine goes under the seat pete, takes some re-arranging but it fits, and the underside of the seat holds it in place!

after getting it to fit .. can you get it out ?

AP ... spent $20 on a pair of black k-mart bags ... how much was the "tidy"? and is it any good? and how far back can the seats go ? and can you swap your Pursuite for my XRT ? ta
