Hi all,

I have an xls ute which goes into production on working day 10 this month (thursday 14th). I am wondering if it is worth spending the extra 600 to get 6disc (which I have never wanted - single suits me just fine) and two tweeters.

Wouldnt the money be better spent on replacing the speakers?

Also is it true that they come with 5x7 's in the doors and behind the seats?

Has anyone squeezed 6x9 's in behind the seats, this would help with bass response?

Hi Red,

I've got an BA XR8 ute and I did'nt want to spend extra on a 6 disc player. Mine came standard with four speakers and it is enough for me. I don't know what size the rears are, perhaps 6x9"? I only know they are oval shaped! Although I have two 10" subs and a big amp that I'm thinking of having installed....thats another story.

I was looking at the rear speakers in mine just last night. Mounted on a flimsy metal plate that isn't supported on two sides. Might have to fix that because after having Premium Sound in my AU2 the prestige BA ute sound is, umm, sort of, very average.

I've just put 6x9 3 ways in the rear of my ute. Just modded the stock metal plate that the 5x7s were mounted on. Fine atm. One day when I could be bothered I'll make some nice wooden brackets to mount the speakers to.
With the space in there, you could put a couple of 6x9s. (3 or 4 even?)
Or maybe some 10" subs. Not sure about the depth though... Maybe not quite deep enough for a sub...
I've also replaced the 5x7s in the doors with 16cm, 3 ways.
Had an amp installed. A 10" sub in a box lives behind the passenger seat. All Pioneer ofcourse.
Sounds very, very nice.

Eleventy billion times better than the stock 5x7s.

I've heard it's very hard to upgrade the stereos in the BA series, due to the central display controlling a lot more things than just the stereo. Therefore, I thought it would be best to option the premium sound as the best thing available before the aftermarket works out these problems. Or is this all just crap???

Speaking to one of my mates that works at Lynford here in Perth and he has assured me that aftermarket equiptment such as decks and speakers have been put into BA utes, so it can be done and he has seen it for himself.

At what cost? I dont know.

So i asked him if it was worth getting prestige sound and pretty much what i expected was NO.

To be honest with you i havnt seen it yet. But all i know is asked my mate if i bought a ute, would i be able to fit an aftermarket system, and he said, a ute has come in with an aftermarket stuff fitted and it was done by the owner himself. When i see him next i'll get more of a specific answer.

BADXR8UTE have you sorted out your system???
