I own a 03' BA XR8 Ute with 18's. One thing I have noticed is the road noise I can hear! It is shocking! I have always drove around with the stereo on, so never noticed it to much but lately I haven't & there is like a roaring sound coming from the rear. I heard a rumor that on the early XR’s with the 18” wheels that the tread pattern on the Dunlop’s from the factory were very noisy & were changed after many complaints. Is there any truth in this & does anyone else have this problem? I have had ford check they problem & they can’t find anything & just say that’s how the utes are.

PS. Maybe the factory ford hardtop makes the road noise even louder????

I noticed a little with mine at the begining, i just thought it was the 18's, i dont even notice it anymore.

mine has a fair bit of road noise, it seems as though as the dunlops have worn the tyre noise gets higher.

I've wondered whether BA's might get what the Focus gets, inside the wheelarches there are a felt type material (similar to inside ski boats) that reduces tyre noise, dont know whether that would do much...

Otherwise you wont notice the road noise once the diff noise cranks up lol

Rodderz: Yeh, mine has 16 000 on the clock & it is alot worse then when i first got the car.... Maybe if i complain enough ford will trade them for some new wheels :) Or maybe not.....

utes are more noiser then say a sedan, there supposed to be work trucks lol

Hi John, i found the best way to stop any road noise was with a good aftermarker exhaust system, fixed everything..lol...

yeah some tyres get road noise, ive got a set of BA18's on my ef and i got cheap 18" tyres for it and its a annoying noise but it goes away when i put the stero up

I had the Yokohama ES100s and they were way worse. The utes use a couple of air vents mounted on the back wall of the cab and these vent in between the tray and cabin. The trick is to put some sound deadening foam in these but still leave a tiny hole for air flow. Makes a huge difference. Problem is getting access to do it.
