I brought a new black BA XR6 Ute. In the sunlight there are a lot of light scratches and swirls in the paint. I took it back to where I brought it and they said this is normal. Is it normal? Or is it a cover up, it also has paint protection on it (does this stuff work)
Thanks for your help
chris
As far as I'm aware its normal. I read somewhere that imperfections in the body work in the area's where its metal, is a common problem. Black paint only highlights the problem.
I have a black au and it has swirl marks all over. We have 2 fleet BA wagons which are both black and you can see the swirl marks in it.
It does take the shine of buying a new car. Especially if its black
Chris, I have had 3 black utes, 2 AUs and currently the BA. The 2 AUs seem to be worse then the BA, but it still has swirls in it when you look hard enough. I have had the paint protection before and considered it a waste of money. That's only my opinion though.
My wife has a black car they look shit hot especially in the showroom, but they need a lot of care every little scratch or mark shows up always needs a wash could wash it could use a every 3 days if you wanted to...
she says no more black cars for her..

hi rod the phantom is not a problem just wash it every 2 weeks looks mickey mouse love the color, my AU was silver thats a great color for little maitinance and washing ....
thx....
PS: i wash my car at work so i get paid for it ...
perfectly normal I'm afraid.....I wash mine every week, with a mitt, and go over it once every three months to remove swirls, does the trick, and looks good for most of the three months......bit of work, but worth every effort.

i seen your car at the FF cruise and i must its looking very good, your black BA had no swirls on the piant that i could see.
maybe come over my place you can do the wifes car, i will spot you $5 lol..
Yep black is the sweetest colour but it is a major hassle to keep nice. Light swirls can be buffed out though but the will come back fairly quickly.
Just make sure when you wash it and dry it you dont use circular motions with the sponge etc. That will help to keep the marks to a minimum.
^^^what he said^^^
In the end it will either drive you nuts or you learn to enjoy washing your car. I will say that I hate going a week without washing mine and love how it looks when it is clean. Only thing is that you have to do it perfectly and spend a heap of time doing it or it wont look any good.
Of course, when it rains you should have a spare car to take cause black cars hate rain! :s6:
