Carbon or SS Zort?

Ok, short and sweet.

Whats the real difference between a carbon steel and stainless steel cats back exhaust? I'm looking to hear some stories regarding price/sound/power differences. Obviously, you are supposed to get a little more power out of the stainless system, so I guess what I'm really after is some experience as to whether or not its noticeable?.....

Cheers,
Simmo.

Re: Carbon or SS Zort?

I think the main difference is that SS is rust proof and will last a lot longer than mild steel.

I don't think there's a power difference. Stainless versus mild does offer slightly different sounds though and the SS exands much more during heating cycles meaning fitment is critical.

Re: Carbon or SS Zort?

Due to the overwhelming response I got to this post, I'm going to try elsewhere to find an answer.....

But thanks to those who bothered.

Footnote: i'm told the equivalent exhuast I'm looking at in mild steel may produce a drone in the cabin. and only comes with a 2 year warranty....

Cheers,
Simmo.

If you're in WA, try D&T Exhausts in Wangara, they're more than happy to talk about their systems.

Simmo, I ordered a Herrod cats back system today (stainless steel). I will let you know my opinion of it after I get it fitted next week.
Cheers,
Rod.

Re: Carbon or SS Zort?

Well I'll be buggered, I booked in today for Herrods cats back stainless system....

But being the shallow bugger I am my decision was based on keeping the twin exhaust end piece/tip of the stainless system and not the single end piece of mild steel.

Re: Carbon or SS Zort?

Jase, it is and it is isn't a dual system. You will have dual 2.5" to the first muffler than single 3" over the diff and than dual 2.5" out of the 2nd muffler. I have been on the phone and emailing other exhaust manufactures and everyone seems a bit vague when it comes to the power lose with less back pressure which you will apparently get if you run dual 2.5" over the diff. I had a lot of exhaust places telling me they can make up a full dual systems or supply one but the last thing I want is to lose 10 or so kw. All noise and no go is not my idea of a good mod. After I spoke to Rob Herrod about the system I felt like I was on the right track. After all his research and experimenting you have to trust a guy who is dedicated to his business which is Ford performance.
