Since I first layed eyes on a BA ute, I have never liked the blue oval that has been put smack bang in the middle of the tailgate. So, after getting my ute I always planned to remove it at some point.
Well today was the day, and after a 5 hour wash with the lot, I got out the hair dryer and went to work.
Low and behold, not only have ford put 2 massive locating holes under the badge, but have stamped another, much smaller, blue oval, directly into the tailgate.
And there is no way to make it look OK either, because the 2 holes are different sizes, and the little stamp is not in the middle, but below and to the right of centre.
Dammit!! Only option if I want to de-badge, is to get an AU tailgate I suppose. Out of the question I think, for such a small improvement. I'll just have to get used to it.
why not take it to the panel beaters and get them to weld the holes up and then paint it, should be heaps cheaper than putting an AU tailgate on, the holes are brilliant idea because it makes my job alot easier when I put badges back on after I repair something.
maybe you should see your local ford dealer, to see if he could order some new badges for you, cause that badge looks great on the ute! now that you have debadged it, it looks like some smart A** kid has come up and stolen the FORD badge

No, the ute looks fine. If you do it properly you can get the badges off so the tape still has its stick. After I found the holes, I just put the badge back on.
I still rekon the badge looks a bit stoopid there though.
2 things- Why would you want to debadge it ? It looks good and even if you dont like it, the rival blokes will have to get used to seeing the back badge of a Ford Ute. HA HA !
- Dont get the holes welded as the heat of the weld warps the metal, even on old utes (HZ, XE)

On previous model Fords I had I was able to pull apart the badge and colour code it to the car. Looks great!
