just got back from giving my ba xr8 ute a workout and found the engine did not want to rev past 3500 rpm. so i pulled over and gave it a rev and now it cuts out between 3000 - 4000 rpm like its not getting fuel. does this anbody know of this problem????

I don't know why it wont rev past 3500 on the road, but it is designed not to rev over 3500ish in neutral/park.

i did not know that the engine wont rev in neutral. first i heard that one. but it felt like it didnot want to rev past 3500 rpm. the car will rev while driving but now feels a bit sluggish think i will go to ford . still pulled a great burnout though(i had the shits).

its 3000 rpm stops reving hits the rev limiter in neutral & park...
they have done this to protect the drive line so you dont break uni's, axle's etc...rev it up and DUMP it...ha,ha.

IMHO the harder you drive it, and the more k's under the belt, the better it goes... I am loving every drive.

jase i have done 5500km.i was easy on it til it hit 2500.

Sounds like you've done enough k's to know your beast... perhaps a visit to the dealer is in order to see if there is a error code stored. I only found out about the cut out at 3000 (thanks XRFPV8) because a mate wanted to stand behind the ute and hear the V8 in all its glory... I thought I had killed it.

I've done 4,500 km and I must admit, I've driven my ute hard from day one, I've done this deliberately, my thoughts are run them in the way you intend to drive them... I sometimes pull up at home and the car stinks, really stinks because it's been flogged, and I get the guilts.

I could be very wrong (so no flamming), but I have run all my cars and bikes in this way, and all made good power when run in.

thank god i spoke to you i thought i killed it or something.as for the burning smell i get that to.the way i look at it if your not goin to drive it hard buy a base model xt 6 .as for goin to the dealership my service manager shits himself when he sees me comin.before i found the forums i was goin back with every problem i had . turns out everyone here has the same sort of problems!
