MadMobile Chronicles Episode 5
Short one for lazy Friday.
Well approaching 1 week of Ute ownership and a fine life-changing week it has been. Highlights have included:
-fitment of the options missing at pickup. Red momo shifter looks great with the XR callouts in the seat and the red-edged mats, they even let me keep the old one. Bonnet protector doesn’t detract from the front end as much as I thought it would, looks quite decent.
-loss of traction on the way home from uni on Tues (before anyone asks, no I’m not 20, I’m doing a masters). Helping provide some local balance in the uni-world of ricer imports. Even saw a riced-up Daewoo Matiz!!?
-becoming the company whore, offering everybody rides at lunchtimes. At the rate I’m going (one at a time) there should be enough people to last every work-day for the next 6 months. There’s an excellent spot near here that is a bit of a rarity, an uphill (and straight) freeway entry-ramp! Means that I turn onto the ramp at 10k and have to be doing 100 at the top to safely merge with traffic. Instant mega-thrill for driver and passenger alike.
-filling the tank. I even get (expensive) joy from this. Knowing that the beast is well fed, and admiring it from the counter and on the walk back to it provides immense satisfaction.
-repeated attacks at the test-track, blasting up and through the hills.
-any opportunity to take it past 4000revs.
-not yet needing to use the stereo!? Unnecessary drowning out of the exhaust note and intake sounds.
-having someone in a silver Focus jump me at some lights, I presume to see what happens when I stick the boot in.
-and last but not least, climbing into it each morning to head off to work. Although Mrs. Madder wants to drive it to work next week. Must aim to get her a ST170 or something so I can still have fun when we swap vehicles. She’s keen for a Mini Cooper-S but I don’t think that’ll happen in a hurry.
Hope to take some more pics over the weekend. The way the weather is looking it seems like I’m doomed to have the bulge reflecting clouds in every photo I take.
