Hi all,
I was wondering if anybody has any pics of a BA XR8 with a 1 tonner tray.
I am looking to purchase one in Januray, but I need a 1 Tonner due to work and lease commitments.
I have searched around for some but cant really find any.
By the way I was a Holden boy, but my best mate bought a XR8 Ute on Friday and now im hooked.
don't quote me on this, but i'm not sure if the XR8 can take a 1 tonne pay load. then again, might just require a few changes to the rear suspension etc.
someone else should be able to verify that for you.
You can put a tray on but you would have to upgrade the suspension and put 16"s on to truly carry 1ton on a regular basis.
I see you're after the FBT exemption, good luck as it'll be tough trying to convince somebody that you have a true tonner there, if you can get an engineers cert for it you'd probably push it through. I'm not sure who does the trays but I've seen some good ones.
The large cab is pretty cool, the Mrs and I fit heaps of stuff behind the seats when cruising up and down the coast. Even my 40kilo male doberman got in there quite neatly, of course he got a hiding afterwards. LOL.

Im a furniture removalist so a normal ute does bugger for me.
I need a 1 tonner as its more practical for me.
Ill have to do some more looking around , but if anybody has any pics it would be great.
I wont be carrying 1 tonne all the time, just mainly boxes, pot plants that sort of stuff.
I drive Ford Courier ATM and the most I put on that is arounmd 500-600, its just more practical for the tray.
As said above, putting a trayback on an XR8 is easy, however it will not have 1 tonne payload (anything is possible though!) Have you thought about a V8 XLS? For the cost difference you could option/mod it up nicely.

Yeah true, but I love the XR8, the hump on the bonnet, the interior, the front lights, leather.
Was thinking about an XLS also, but we will have to see, Might have to speak to the accountant in regards to the tax side of things.

Also the supercab is very applealing to me also.
Thanks.
Even if you put light truck tyres and 16" rims, 1 tonne suspension, you still wont be legally allowed to carry 1 tonne because of the compliance plate, you would have to get it "engineered" to carry 1 tonne legally.
I have a mate who did have an AU XR8 ute and manufactured his own checkerplate tray, took the stock tub off and it came up quite well. As others said it wont be rated to 1-tonne but the tray will be more practicle than a tub with the wheelarches and corrugated tray liner. Then just a matter of hooking up the lights etc too
