Simple one

Can you option a standard XR8 with the 290kw Pursuit motor??
If so, cost?
Then compare this to the price of getting the 260kw pumping out 290kw?

Let me have a guess at $5000 in parts (no labour)would get 290kw from the 260kw XR8???

I'd say a custom edit tune for around $1500 would get you pretty close to 290kw.

I remember Rob Herrod saying that CAI, Exhaust and Chip (it was a while ago) would make a 260 output around 290.

I guess this edit tune would now do around the same, but you don't mention where you're from so I can't suggest a tuner.

Be careful whom you get to tune it though, there are some crappy, pinging, surging "custom" tunes being flogged off to the unsuspecting.

I would be yakking to a certain site sponsor here about my edit if I were you. So you will have plenty of change from your 5K for fuel...

OT Side Note: I remember reading on here ages ago, where someone slipped the boys at FPV a slab to upgrade his engine to a 290, it was on the internet, so it must be right! Don't think he ever posted again... lol

I heard Redcliff Performance Centre(I think) on the radio saying they specialise in BA Fords. Cant beleive the price you guys are quoting for an extra 30kw. So with a new exhaust for maybe another $2500 you could be pushing maybe 310kw?

$4000 for 50kw sound reasonable guys?

I thought only difference was high compression pistons in 290. Cams, exhaust, heads etc the same. probably some slight mods in ECU, but similar power gains between 260 and 290 with tune, so extra power wouldn't come from different edits between two.

260's better for supercharging......................
