Hi everyone, this is my first virgin post to this forum.
I own an AUII XL ute, i've done some basic modifications so far to it, mostly nothing, SS Advanced headers, resonator and hi flow exhaust, iridium spark plugs and a pod filter, so basically it just breathes better now. In the near future(next week) im having it lowered, it already has 17" Tickford wheels.
My questions are, where to now?
I know I need a vent or scoop to ease the heat under the bonnet to allow the pod to breathe better, where is a good place to get a modest scoop installed in South Australia? Should I install it myself?
The first gear in the automatic transmission is as tall as a skyscraper, should I consider a transmission change? If so, what type of Auto should I change to? Should I do this before or after I consider a chip & cam upgrade?
Any other opinions, ideas, threats etc?

A conversion to manual would be the best change. If you're sticking with an auto I don't think there's another gearbox you can get. Maybe look at getting a shift kit fitted ?
Chip with your current mods should make a decent difference already.
As for the vent or scoop you can get discounts via www.aufalcon.com thru
Otherwise maybe get http://www.ssv.com.au/index.html in Sydney (who do mail order) to ship you out something. I for my XR was considering the EF/EL bonnet flutes for a start.
Good luck.

A) its a three seater column shift, just enough seats for me the missus and the squirt
B) I never learned to drive manual, weird I know but I just never got around to it!
Maybe a better differential might make some benefit? If so, what ratio do you think?

I honestly thought a higher stall convertor would be best to overcome the first gear thing?

If your going for a different diff, perhaps just jump straight up to a 3.7 or 3.9, i believe the stock XL would be about 3.23
Are the 3.7 & 3.9's sourced from local model Skylines as I've heard ?

I havent got a clue to be honest..but swapping the 3.45 for a 3.9 is common practise for holden owners, and DJ swapped the 3.45 in his HP320 for a 3.73, so why shouldnt someone else follow suit when theyre suffering with a 3.23...
ok so after some careful consideration, this is my plan
stage1: Unichip and Crow Hydraulic Cam, heavy valve springs.
stage2: New ratio differential
stage3: Transmission replaced. Might look at a same model recon XR6 Transmission.
stage4: Engine blueprinted and head ported/shaved
what do you guys think?

Possibly one of the more expensive ways to do things as far as getting the engine blueprinted and porting the head....i wouldnt be too surprised if that sets you back a couple of grand, money that could be spent on something like a supercharger...also consider what you want to do with the exhaust, for me thats a surprise omission
exhaust is already done, stainless steel headers, 2.5" mild steel pipe, resonator, hi flow muffler and cat.
Supercharging in South Australia is a nightmare, and after I got an engineer involved as I would need to, I might as well purchase a BA xr6T, so I wont be going that route.
