Hey all, now i've got me hardcover i wanna get rid of me tonneu cover lugs on the outside the tray. Has anybody done it?
By looking at em i guess they are just riveted on and by drilling of the tops of em they plastic lug will just pull off.
Does anybody know if the other end of the rivet will fall out through to theground or is it blocked in and will rattle around in my tray for the next 50 years?
Hey AP you still got the pics of ya ute with the tray out? i tried finding em but couldn't.

Mate I have done mine. They just drill out as you said, they fall back into the tub but they don't rattle around. Just remember to grab the lugs with some pliers or similar when you drill them out cause they start spinning around otherwise and leave scratch marks.

Then you just buy the replacement lugs to fill up the holes from Ford, they are black so you need to paint them.

my painter found a place that sells the un painted plastic bungs for $15 nz per 25 bungs. i'll ask him next time i see him

yeah well i got the qoute for getting it welded an painted....$600!!!
Passed on that idea, gettin plugs painted an fitted for about $30 bucks, depends on how much the spraypainter can get the plugs for.

mate, i did mine but i used plugs ya use for ya power points in ya house, ya know the ones you use to cover up the screw holes. just pin a sparkie down and pinch some from him, he'll have stacks!!

Just did mine, the lugs drilled out with a 9/16" drill.
Bought 20 plugs and a bottle of touchup paint from Ford spares for about $45 and painted the plugs and put them in.

Have you got any closeups of the plugs?

It was very easy, I was concerned I might cause some paint problems etc, with the first lug, I just increased the drill size one by one until I had it off. The 9/16" drill was perfect, every lug came off and I even left the paint in the existing lug holes in the body (good for avoiding rust).
No troubles, I made sure I held the lugs whilst drilling with a set of grips to avoid them twisting and trashing the paint.
I will try to get closeups of the plugs.
I have asked to change my username, isn't really relevant now.....
