I thought this question would be best suited to the ute guru's.
On the way to work this morning (late) I was a block away when I passed a very tidy BA XR6 Ute. The same workshop normally has it backed in with a BA XR8 Venom in front of it... but not today.
The XR6 was parked on the road and as I flew past I caught a flash of the tailights. Stock, but not.
I back up to get a better view. Sure enough, they were tailights that had brake, indicator and reverse.
Nothing as hidious as I have been seeing attached to the arse' of some utes.
They looked really classy, but in a stock way, you did get the red/orange/clear lense and it was quite refreshing from the red/clear setup that you currently get.
Aswell as the nice lenses, there was no longer a stupid reverse lamp on the rear bar.
Did I just witness something special, maybe BA II special?
Or just stock XR tailights.
PS, car was seen in Tullamarine.
Cheers, Casey.

Quicklier- Ford started to put these new tail-lights on the utes from late 2003, i think september onwards or around then.
I picked up my xr8 ute on friday and it has this tail light assmebly and makes the ute look so much cleaner at the back.
hope this helps :)

I believe the change was due to the RTV. If I recall correctly it was something to do with ADR in relation to the reversing light height from the ground and also the distance from the rest of the lights.
Theydecided to keep it simple and use the same for all the utes.
As said above, these tail lights are a change made to the utes late '03. Was trying to source some aftermarket ones, but apparently they haven't been developed yet for this tail light settup.

i was under the impression the change was due to the fact the F-series trucks in the US changed to this setup, and seeing we use the same taillights we simply inherited the change...

This could be true too. Although as a general rule the US uses the brake light as the indicator hence the shape colour of the AU 1 & 2 lights.
