Just watching CH10 the v8 utes, and obviously the exterior looks like a BA on all the ford utes....but they keep saying AU2 falcon utes ?
Whats the deal there ? are they AU's with BA panels or something ?
the other week the commentator said the ford has a 5.0litre...
and im sure when they did the in -car camera thing, it showed the AU interior ?

As far as I know the brutes are just AU's with a panel change to BA. (I'm happy to be corrected)
Yep basically to modernize. The Commodores were originally VU (ie VX) but have updated to VY and there were even some VZs out there - probably just new panels on the front, God knows they would be going through plenty!
I think the change from Windsor to Boss has given them a bit of a problem in that they have the Windsor and LS1 reasonably well equal, now have to go through the exercise again. Not to mention the additional cost and you can see how the current situation has evolved.
Because the BA fronts looks so much sweeter and hotter, of course.
(waits for the flames from AU faithful. )
Procar did test a BA ute at the end of 2003 to see if it was viable to update to the BA. They incountered a few problems. 1. the BA was way too front heavy and could not do the lap times the AU with the 5L windsor could. 2. It was way to hard on front tyres. They have a allication of tyres and the BA would not let the tyres live.... 3 There was a huge cost factor that could not be overcome, by changing to the BA even if they could make it competitive. So it was just better to stay with the AU and use a BA front.....
