hi all i posted this a few days ago, but it was buried in another thread.
Let me start off by itroducing myself, my name is michael and im a uni student studing civil eng, i own 2 cars, the first is a rusty old 1988 XF ute on its last legs and my second is a 1927 model t pickup, wich is in pieces but is probably more reliable than the falc :/

I'm looking at buying a xls ute at the end of this year or early next year, and im wondering about what sort of things i should look out for when examing the car before buying it and then owning and running it.

The models that im looking at are AU II or III with the 6 cyl and 5 spd manual box. Ive heard with these the front discs are constantly warping?

the other choice i'm hoping i end up with is either a new or low km BA xls with the 6 cyl and auto box.

any help that anyone can offer will be very much appreciated.
oh btw, has any one started making after m,arket front spoilers for the BA? as if i go with the BA the only beef i have with it is that i think that the front abr is very bland on the non-xr/gt levels

I'd recommend upgrading the brake discs to DBA slotted rotors, regardless if they warp or not. As for general problems - make sure the ute hasn't been abused, and don't rule out auction houses either!

A documented service history is also important.

i had one..
5spd 6cyl

was a machine!
not one problem in 22,000km

you could probably pick one up for about $20k now!
mine was in mint condition
black, sports bar, nudge bar, heavy duty tow packm 5spd

sold it for $23,500!

but now when i fire up the BA XR8 ute!

I just brought a 9/2001 xls 5spd for 18,000 done 32,000klms they are an absolute bargain at the moment its still got 18 months warranty.

I got a runout xls III for 25000k if you get an auIII xls you get the 164 kw hp engine standard. Great utes I love mine the only prob the gear box can be a little temperamental and I've seen a few posts complaining about them but I still prefer a manual. Good luck

I've noticed the NSW cops are now using BA XLS utes. They'll be a good bit of gear for auction time since they get the nice extras likie alloys etc etc
