Am looking at a 1983 XE 4 speed ute, any ideas about what I could expect, any trouble or a good buy. I don't have a huge amount of money and need a car that won't cause me HUGE headaches.

i have owned a `81 XD and a `88 XF ute .

a good tuff , reliable ute unless it has been hammered into the ground already.

easy and cheap to get parts for and easy to work on .

one of their biggest problems if if the rust gets started .
main spots to look is in the back roof pillar, around the quarter window , the roof gutter and around the windscreen and between the doors and back wheels along the seam at the top of the sill.
