hi guys, my old man just bought a xe falcon ute auto 1983 model and when he went in to get it insured the nrma said there were no autos in the 1983 utes but this thing looks stock standard with columm shift auto.
Any info would be good thanks.

Bah Redbooks lists XE's available as an Auto 6cyl ute but AAMI online quote wont except vehicle specs as an Auto only manual. Scot me stumped. Either the DB the insurance mobs use is corrupt/wrong or they didn't make any.

Easy answer, their database is wrong. Of course there were auto utes in 1983, do they think Ford's new year resolution that year was not to build any or something? Even XP utes would have been built with autos. I know it's a bit more specific but when getting insurance quotes for my ute some companies would swear the bullbar was an extra, whereas it was standard on XH1 and became optional on XH2. The companies concerned also did not ask the question is it s1 or s2.

I don't know what the solution to that is other than pursue it with a supervisor and try to talk sense to them, as the normal call centre operators will not be able to override it. Other insurance companies should have the correct info (some, not all though going by my experience).

go somewhere else. your comp/vin plates should have the codes to say if it really is an auto wouldnt it?

I had the same trouble with my XE ute up here and RACQ just changed it on the spot for me...a couple of shakes of the head and a few..are you sures..and it was done...
