Looking at buying one of the said utes. What is a good price to pay for one in god condition? preferably auto but if it is manual I'll just switch with the XR6
I have been scouting around and it seems that some average K's, longreach or S XG utes can go for as low as $7000, while people can be asking upto $14000 for an XH.
I have about $7000 - $12000 to spend, but would like to stay in the lower part of this frame.
So your after an XH now EBXR? I guess your still looking judging by your signature.
Barefoot_XR6,
If I was in the market again I'd definetely go the XH. The front suspension and steering in the XG dates back to the ark though it has the EB engine/transmission.
XH got updated with the whole EA-EL front structure, SLALS front suspension and rack & pinion steering. MUCH Better.
I'm happy with either, and have driven both. Your XG was pretty sweet. But for now I'm plodding on with my XC. I ended up with the mustang as an XG/H substitute from the wife
Look forward to the details, my mind occasionally wanders to a classic Mustang or XM Coupe project car.
Agree about the styling XG vs XH.
The XH has grown on me but it's never going to be as cohesive as the XD/XE/XF/XG. The EFish front just doesn't work with the square lines at the back no matter how hard they tried to disguise it.
Why didn't they just build an E-series ute!
That would have been sweet!
Have you ever seen this one up close, nice effort from the Hilliers;
As most have said the XH is more refined than the XG because of the front end. However, I wouldn't let a good XG out of my site if it was the right money.
With a bit of touching up, the front end can be made to feel really good, just no quite as precise as the later XH.
I paid $11,700 for my 97 XH 5spd with 115k about 6 months ago.
My brother just paid $7000 for a 93 XG 5spd with 180k.
Also, if I was to buy a manual and switch it with the ED XR6, how would I go about switching the chips. For example, if I was to just take out the transmission and pedal boxes and chips from each car and do a straight swap would either car feel different because of the chips?
Just to let everyone know we ended up buying a XH, build date 10/97
It is heritage green, 5 speed manual, 90000kms, a few dents and some scratches all for $8500.
Should be able to get an XH for about $9 or $10K, that's what they were going for when I got my EF sedan. Go an XH the interior shits all over the XG- XG's have an old 1985 era XF interior!!!!
go an xh series two spack 5-speed. and put a dickie seat in the middle. in my opinion an xh dumps all over xg. interior is diff. series two has el dials and ash tray. different dash surrounds and electric mirrors. ef/el steering wheel.
the old xg is way too similar to an xf.
tint the windows, lower it, 16's, exhaust, side skirts, and clear repeater lenses from a nl/nf fairlane, you have one mean ute!!!!
Well no doubt you can obviously tell from my user name what I own... and I love it. Much better than the XG, I havent had a problem with mine in a little over 12 months. If you have any questions about them, ask...
ANYONE WITH A UTE feel free to check out another sweet ute forum australia and new zealand wide its www.streetutes.com
