Exclamation 1997 Ford KA - HELP!

I have recently been losing coolant at a fairly rapid rate, e.g expansion tank EMPTY overnight, the origional problem was the thermostat gasket which i replaced, i then found a bigger leak which was due to a crack in the thermostat housing, i then replaced the housing yet i still have a leak, from what i can see it has nothing to do with the housing so im stumped, i have no white smoke coming from my exhaust which im told is a sign ov the cylnder head gasket going which evaporates the water, i have no crack in expansion tank as far as i can tell, and the rad seems fine.

I have no idea what it could be and have spent hours searching the net and flicking through a haynes manual.....nothing!

any ideas please!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks very much!

Re: 1997 Ford KA - HELP!

Hi
I've seen a number of expansion tanks leaking through the cap, either due to a faulty thread in the tank or the cap itself (the last one is more common). This kind of leak leaves none or little trace, but there's a way to tell. When the engine is hot, just before the thermostat opens and the fans kick in, you will see bubbles in your expansion tank, as the coolant boils due to the loss of pressure. Hope this helps. cheers
