A few weeks back my wifes 2003, 1.4cc Fiesta Ghia had a replacement clutch fitted. Within 24 hours a small misfire developed in 1st and 2nd gear on an intermittent basis, which gradually increased.

Yesterday the problem extended to all gears, an Orange Malfunction light then flicked on and off, then disappeared for about ten minutes and has done this intermittently since then.

Acceleration / power has become almost non existent, so we have now parked the car up at her employers and need to sort it out.

The car starts first time every time, and the engine tickover when started sounds smooth. There is no unusual smoke or anything coming from the exhaust.

Anyone got any ideas of what we should look for

Autozone will check the codes for free. The light doesn't have to be on for a code to be present.

Could check the engine / gearbox earth strap is secure and clean .
