!.4 TDCi poor mpg - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

I have recentlt bought a Fiesta 1.4 TDCi expecting 60+ mpg but I am lucky to get 50mpg. I have heard that it is a design fault and can be fixed by Ford for £50. Is this correct ?
I bought the car to save on fuel bills but am using as much as my old Golf GTI
Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

glad i am not the onlyone!i bought 52 plate tdci zetec 6 weeks ago and cant get more than 45 to the gallon however i drive it. have also got a terrible grinding / rumbling sound from front passenger area. ford have had it back for 4 days and changed driveshaft and wheel bearings to no avail!they now tell me it is wheel and tyre noise so i am in negotiations to make them replace it or refund my money

Ford in the past few years have cut there build costs. hence the new issues arising with them.

VW are to do the same with there Golf, trying to slash 3k of!!!

Quality becomes compromised!

I've just filled up my 1.4 TDCi Fiesta after my first tank of fuel and it returned a pretty healthy 56mpg. I've been travelling at 70-75 on motorways (usually do 65-70) and booting a bit more than usual due to it being a new (to me) car... I'm expecting 60+ when Im more sensible! Maybe I just drive like a mincer?
