Re: apparent overheating

Yep, there's a TSB outlining overheating on Fiesta/Ka due to faulty heater valve operation and therefore lack of circulation.

Re: apparent overheating

hi there. i've been reading your posts about your car over heating and mine is doing exactly the same. the temp goes into the red, the heaters blow cold and its been doing my head in. this has only happened since my heaters were only blowing cold and wanted them fixed for the cold winter. i phoned a place called ford parts which is a huge scrap yard that specialise in ford parts, new and old. the guy told me over the phone that i needed a new heater valve and that it was very common.
so i bought this part and when i tried to change it, the other one had sort of melted and snapped off and got stuck in the pipes. i tried to get it out with a screwdriver but it had turned all mushy and just crumbled away inside of the pipes. i know now after reading your post that i have the same problem. that a bit of plastic is blocking something. so really my question is how do i clear it and get the bits of plastic out. many thanks. ross

Re: apparent overheating

you take the valve out like you have already done before.
look in each of the holes and look for any bits of plastic if you can get at them with a screw driver get them out obviously be carefully not to damage the valve.
on my car i could see the bit of plastic but could not get it out so i removed the four screws (near the electrical connector) then carefully remove the metal plate that the four screws were holding in, this has the plunger connected to it also be carefully when you remove it also take note what way you took the plate off as its square and looks like it could go back on any way around. (not sure if this would cause any probs if put back on the wrong way around)

i then used a screw driver to push the bit of plastic back towards where the plunger would go through and managed to get it out that way but when you get it all apart you will see its all plastic you could just blow it using water through with a hose pipe.

thats how i fixed mine anyway.
if you dont find any plastic in the valve it may still be loose in one of the pipes going to the valve which you could remove and blow out with water.
only other thing is if the valve that you brought is actually faulty.

let us know if you manage to fix it.
i will be a expert on those fiesta soon as mine broke down again the other day this time fuel pump / wiring. im 90% sure its wiring and i really hope its not the pump as the cars got just over three quarters of tank of petrol in it and you have to take the tank out to change the pump from what i can see in the haynes manual. so you can guess what im doing tomorrow.
