Cold Air Intake and Spark plugs for my Ka...
Hey guys... newbie here. Just starting out in this "modify your stock car" world and wanting to upgrade the HP in my 2001 Brazilian-assembled 1.6L 8V Zetec RoCam Ka.
The first thing I want to do to my car is change the air filter system... I've noticed K&N 57i kits for the 1.3L (part num. 57-0310) engine and for the new 1.6L Duratek engine (part num. 57-0489) but none specifically listed for my Zetec engine. Also... the system this kit has to get cold air from the front grill into the filter cone doesn't really look very efficient and it has no heat shield.
Any advice here? Should I rather install a full Iceman Cold Air Intake system or its equivalent with a high performance cone filter? How much would this set me back? (I'm poor!!)
And also... what about twisters on the filter cone? Are they worth it? How about a supercharger air unit such as an e-Ram?
Second point, the spark plugs... I've looked around and I see most recommendations for the Denso Iridium sparkplugs. Assuming there are adequate Denso Iridium plugs for my Ka, they are supposed to spark at 15K to 20K volts... whereas regular sparkplugs need up to 25K volts. Do I need to change my electric cables for these or will my stock electric system do?
Thanks for the comments... I'm trying to gain as many HP as possible with these mods.
