DIY repairs, installs on 1989 Fiesta?
Hi all.
Wife just got a 1989 Fiesta, 3-door European model, and I am now the designated mechanic. Runs pretty good and is in great shape, has 20,000 km on it in about 15 years of driving (got from friend's retired parents).
Couple problems right off the bat:
1) Turn signals have intermittent flaw where they don't work at all. Will work fine for days, then all of a sudden (as you're turning onto busy highway!) they don't turn on. Affects both left and right together.
Seems like some kind of electrical contact problem.
Ideas appreciated.
2) It has a centralized door locking mechanism. The lock on the driver's side doesn't work: turn key in lock and you get a grinding/humming sound, like little motor trying to work, but doesn't. Have to lock/unlock car from passenger side only.
Any idea if this is easy to repair or replace?
3) Came with old, barely working radio/cassette player. Would like to swap with spare radio/CD player I already have. It's a standard sized unit, made by Majestic, bought late 2006.
Looking for tips, experience on removing old radio and installing new one. Don't want to wreck dashboard area. Probably need some kind of cable adapter for stereo to connect to Fiesta's wiring?
Any and all tips, advice, experience, etc. much appreciated.
Huge help would also be: where can I download Repair Manuals, installation guides, etc. from the web?
Thanks.
