Wink Fiesta 1.1 HCS engine rebuild

I am about to rebuild my wifes 1.1 HCS engine from her Fiesta and wondered if there were any specific issues with this engine that make it noisey.

In particular, the cam, do they tend to wear on these engines? and should it be replaced at the same time as the rings, bearings and seals I plan on doing at the same time.?

Also.... what is it that makes these engines noisey? They all seem to sound like a bag of spanners, is there anything that helps? roller rockers? new cam chain? rocker shaft?

As well as this engine being fit after the rebuild, it would be nice to make it a bit more refined, I am used to building Porsche engines in my job, so it would be nice to build this one so it does not sound like a steam powered hammer. :o)

All the best

Jon

Re: Fiesta 1.1 HCS engine rebuild

Sounding rattly is generally lack of maintenance, these engines tend to get driven into the ground with the least amount of time being spent looking after them. We did have a concern a few years back with a batch of faulty followers which gave rise to a different design and an increase (!) in exhaust valve clearance. If the engines getting an over-haul anyway why not fit a cam and followers also a new timing chain and tensioner. If you want it almost totally silent make sure it's got the thicker rocker box.
