Fiesta 53 plate cutting out when slowing down at junctions

Hello,

I am having a problem with my 53 plate 5 door Fiesta. The engine starts fine although there is a sound of what seems like the car is struggling somehow and as if the engine isn't running as smoothly as it should be.

I can usually get going fine but sometimes when I drop into a lower gear on approach to a junction the car cuts out and the dash battery light and ECU light comes on.

I can sometimes keep it going by pressing the throttle and it pushes the revs up to stop the car completely stalling. Other times it just stalls and I have to restart the engine which sometimes starts easy and other times not so easy.

Im not sure what could be the problem. I don't want to go straight to the garage as if its something like cleaning out a filter or valve then I would look into doing it myself and save myself a small fortune.

Regards,

pj

You dont say what engine / model of Fiesta .Need to check the basics i.e plugs and leads first in case intermittent breakdown of spark dropping a cyl .Could also try cleaning MAF ( Mass Airflow Meter )

Ps.
Welcome to the forums .

Could also be fuel pressure. If you can measure pressure at the fuel rail, it can give you indication. Not sure what your pressure should be but if you hit the accelerator (go wide open), the pressure shouldn't fluctuate by much. See if you can get it scanned.
