Fiesta Diesel Problem
Hi, I am new here so please be gentle.
I have a ford fiesta 1.8 diesel 1994 model. Currently I have a bit of a problem with it.
To start off, yesterday I came out to got to work and the car would not start so I managed to get a lift in. I spoke to a guy and he thought the glow plugs were no good, so I changed them...whilst doing this, I charged the battery due to it going flat on the morning.
I put the battery back on once changed the glow plugs and on the first turn of the key, it started. I left the car for about an hour and went back to it..much to my avail, it would not start again...battery was dying. I have noticed though over the past few weeks that there was a nasty squeaking noise coming from what I thought was the alternator, it turned out to be both the water pump (this was changed last week) and the alternator.
I tiightened up the alternator as much as I could but unfortunatley wont go no more and the belt is still slipping slightly, making a nice squeak when accelerating.
I charged the battery overnight and the car started on the first turn of the key...could the battery or alternator be at fault?
Would I be wise in changing both together or just the alternator and seeing what happens as I can get my hands on another battery for the time being.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Matt
