Fiesta Down-Under

Europe's award-winning Fiesta will become part of Ford Australia's product line-up in early 2004.
Ford Australia President Geoff Polites says Fiesta is a key component of the company's transformation in Australia.

"Introducing Fiesta to Australia is proof of our commitment to the light-car segment in this country and our belief in its importance to our business," said Geoff.

"It is one of the world's best small cars – as evidenced by its recent award of Germany's prestigious Golden Steering Wheel, scoring top marks overall for its steering, transmission, and design.

"The new Fiesta has been a huge success in Europe, with sales figures already exceeding expectations. Europe-wide availability alone is only now possible because the Cologne plant where it is built recently achieved a daily production record of 1,610 units," he said.

"We have a program with Ford of Europe that enables them to meet our capacity and model breakdown requirements in early 2004.

"Fiesta's contemporary European styling and award-winning driving dynamics will appeal to customers in the light-car segment. We believe they'll find it's worth the wait," said Geoff.

Further product details will be released closer to launch.

I hope they change the name. Sounds too much like Festiva. The name Fiesta sounds kinda gay too. I know I wouldn't drive one.

I rekon the name is too similar & they should just call it Festiva out here or failing that something completely different but I'd hate to stress the poor fellas at Fords Marketing department with having to come up with a name it could interupt their nap time

i agree mr jucy.
we already have a hard time at the dealerships with the BA escape/BA falcon and the KA,
you never quite know when someone rings up and say they have a ford KA/car whether they mean a KA or a KA model laser or just a ford car! and the older generation can get a little stroppy when you try to clarify which vehicle they do have(oh i dont know its just a ruddy ford!)

wow thats one tiny car! bet it goes like stink though. Imagine one of those with the focus ST170 or RS engine in it, with 4 wheel drive and the rear seat taken out to give the front more room. It would be like a go-kart but a hell of a lot quicker!

Pity we can't get it here 2003, let's hope it's still a class leader in 2004!
