i had my car towed to the garage yesterday because it broke down due to the fuel pump.
i have just had a call from my mechanic who said that i will need a new fuel pump and timing belt.
i have a 1.8 deisel fiesta Y reg. and it has done alot of miles.
apparently my fuel pump is coded....... what does this mean???
and i got quoted £1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can not even imagine spending this much on the car, so can someone shed some light on why i have been quoted this much for a deisel coded fuel pump!?!
Yes diesel fuel pumps aren't cheap unfortunately due to the high pressures involved, and a new belt is always advisable because if the old one's refitted and subsequently snaps you could end up with engine damage and another big bill. The coding side is due to the anti-theft (PATS) sytem embedded in the pump which involves coding in your keys.
