Fiesta mk4 cutting out

Hi all
Ive just bought a 1997 mk4 fiesta 1.3 Endura - E engine and im having the problem of it cutting out when changing gears for round abouts/slowing for junctions. from what ive seen here i need to replace the Idle control valve? how much am i looking at for a replacement? (UK) Is it better to get a brand new replacement or would one from the local scrappy do the job?
Cheers
Ash

Re: Fiesta mk4 cutting out

There's a few components that could cause the engine to cut out, you really need to get a diagnostic run on it to see if any codes are stored.

Hey there, no real need to replace the Idle control valve, generally its a build up of carbon deposit. Remove it, spray the two holes you see with lots of Carb Cleaner (so no more black grime comes out) and then soak with WD40 before drying it out. Works a treat .........unless it is broken. Also gets rid of a humming/whistling noise that may be present with this problem.
