hi everyone whats the starter motor on a 96 16v fiesta like to change,i only ask cos its my nieghbors and i dont want to mess it up,apart from disconnecting the battery and actually removing the starter is their anything specific to this vehicle i need to know,eg will disconnecting the battery upset anything apart from the clock and stereo.thanks
i haven't had to take the starter off mine yet and i dont think ive removed the battery yet either but i have taken the ECU out of it which i guess is what you are worried about is removing power to ECU?
when i removed the ECU in my fiesta 1998 1.4 zetec and reconnected every thing was fine the car run with no problems at all but on my other car escort RS2000 1996 when i have removed the battery before this resets the ECU and for about the first 30 or 40 miles the car would stall at junctions etc and it was worse if the aircon was on but after the first 30 - 40 miles the car goes back to normal, i think the ECU goes into leaning mode, but strangely this didn't happen on the fiesta but on the fiesta the ECU was removed to fix a problem that my EX Ford main dealer had created and wanted to charge me a silly figure to replace ECU which just needed reseting anyway thats another story but i can say the car was not very happy pre removing the ecu and jumped back to life after this had been done.
i know this is not to do with the starter but I'm only guessing you are worried about removing the power and upsetting the ECU.
