Hi everyone,

I have an old Fiesta 1.3i Classic N reg ( 1996 ) and the following just happened:

Whilst driving along the steering rapidly got stiffer and stiffer to the point where the resistance on the wheel was as if the car was stopped with the engine off. This happened very quickly and scared the life out of me.

Is this a common problem with these old Fiestas ?

Also just to mention, it hasn't got power steering.

Has anyone got any idea of what the problem could be?

Hi

Sounds like the steering coupling has siezed-quite common with age.About £10 from a dealer and dead easy to replace!!
