Hi

I have just heard this: -

CRITICAL ALERT: Ford Fiesta (1999 on)
Spark plugs can rust into head on Endura 1.3 if left in more than
10,000 miles or overtightened; easily done due to taper
threads. Rectification involves head removal and drilling out.

Can someone tell me how I should look for this and what preventive
measures, if any, can be taken to ensure this does not happen. Also,
is there anything I can do myself rather than take it to a Ford dealer
or would you recommend the latter?

Hi swamy and welcome to ford forums.

I would suggest the best way would be for you to remove the sparkplugs yourself and put some light oil on the threads of the spark plug such as CRC or similar and retighten in the head using a torque wrench set to the correct torque settings.This will prevent overtightening and rusting up.
