Fitting A Rev Counter to a MK3 Fiesta

I've recently bought a 1996 1.1 Fiesta - I think this makes it a MK3.5 HCS. One of the things I really wanted (just 'cause I like them) was to have a rev counter in the dash. I didn't want a ridiculous 5" aftermarket job because IMO they look stupid, especially in a 1.1 Fiesta Classic. I managed to pick up a replacement instrument panel from eBay with the same speedo etc and a rev counter. According to the Haynes manual pin #12 on the back of instrument panel is the one that needs connecting - and it has a wire in the connector block which I presume isn't connected to anything as the rev counter doesn't work if I just swap the panels out. What would I have to connect to where in order to make it work? I believe it needs connecting to a suppressor / filter which then goes into the ignition coil somewhere? (Possibly the green wire going into the bit where the HT leads connect) That's about all the info I've found out and it's not really enough to go on. Can anyone give me some better instructions?

John

Re: Fitting a rev Counter to Mk 3 Fiesta
I've done the same but don't follow Haynes manual, you need to connect to Pin 10 on back of Instrument panel. I have run a separate wire from pin 11 on the connector block which is in the at the back of the engine just to the right of the filter (looking from the front of the car) to Pin 10 on instrument panel. the only problem is that the rev counter runs at half speed, I'm trying to find out how to correct this. If you go on e-bay and buy the ford TIS cd it will give a better wiring diagram than haynes, my only cost 99p

Re: Fitting A Rev Counter to a MK3 Fiesta

A quick visit to a scrappie has located me the suppressor and the connector to go into the back of the instrument panel, just gotta figure out wiring now...

Re: Fitting A Rev Counter to a MK3 Fiesta

quality. I see what you mean about pin 10, tracing the circuitry on the back of the panel links that to the rev counter, and there's nothing on pin 10 on the old instrument panel. having trouble finding the connector block you mention though. Is it behind the black metal panel which is held on with bizzare bolts? They're like a star with a bit in the centre. I guess this connector block is the connection to the ecu?
