When I went to look (and purchased) a 1999/2000 KA 1.3i this weekend I thought the brakes had failed (after driving my Octavia - just breathe on those brakes and you lock up).
MOT said 73% efficiency!! Was more like 10%
Is this common with the KA besides the rust?
What can I do to vastly improve these but on a budget?
Haven't had the chance to look at the pads and discs yet. I am guessing the fluid needs changing also but looks very clear.
I see front discs and pads are pretty cheap on ebay. Maybe the pads are just glazed or contaminated.
It only has 59,000 miles on it so I think the engine is in good condition. Air con and power steering work fine.
I changed the plugs, air filter, oil 5w30 semi/filter etc. Filter was a PITA. sump plug was put on my HULK also. It has a rubber washer so no need for such torque. Cleaned out the metal gauze thing on the oil filter cap as that was really messy.
Aux belt needs changing also.
Does anyone have any links for manuals on how to do this? Belt plus tensioner is recommended?
Is the water pump driven by this belt also? Easy to replace the water pump?
one more thing - the oil dipstick!! Every time I slide it out it seems to smear and is unreadable. think I got a 3/4 reading after filling her up.
I guess I need to leave it overnight and read it.
Also it's a little tappety (but just very little), I am assuming the clearances need adjusting.
