Hi,

I have a 1998 Ford KA2
It has had problems with acceleration for about 4 months now.
at first it was like a hesitation to accelerate
and it would clear
i took it in
they changed the spark plugs
which solved it for a few weeks
then came back
so they cleaned through engine with redex
then came back a few weeks later
then they changed plug leads
which didn't solve it at all
then changed coil pack
which didn't make any difference
by this point the problem was much worse
instead of just hesitation when you put your foot down
it was shuddering really bad and slowing down
also i noticed smoke coming from the exhaust when it shudders.
my oil light came on for a second.
so i checked the oil.
and it was empty.
after filling it to the top only 3 weeks prior.
having done only 750 miles in that time.
i started driving it really carefully like allowing it to gain momentum and trying not to accelerate fast.
which for 2 weeks it didn't do as much.
i had been advised by my mechanic to buy a new engine.
so I had that fitted.
and no change at all.
he changed the back box of the exhaust cause said it would be clogged from all of the oil burning.
there isn't any smoke anymore.
well not yet anyway.
but it still has the same problem.
i've spent so much money.
and the mechanic is totally stumped.
and i've taken it to more than one.
when they test it and do compression tests etc no error codes come up.
but there is definately something wrong with it.

if anybody has any ideas.
it has a brand new engine.
but isn't fixed.
grrrrr

its just i've bought a Mini One as i really need a car for work.
and I need to sell my KA to pay the money my parents lent me for the mini back.
but nobody will buy it in the condition its in.

well it sounds like you have done alot to try and fix this, is there any shit in the tank and being dragged towards the filters and blocking the intake of fuel will course it to shudder and hesitate from lack of fuel may also cause your smoke, may have changed the engine but have you look at the fuel system at all?

may not be any help but thought i may as well try lol

Hi there, I had similar problems and solved it buy replacing the fuel filter.....then the same re-appeared and I came across a dodgy connection on my oxygen sensor (is had corroded contacts), cleaned it up and hey presto!!

yeah i already had the fuel filter changed.
and it was the original one.
but it didn't make any difference.
i had a new oxygen sensor when it was mot'd in february.
so i wouldn't think it'd be that.
also i'm pretty sure that it would come up as an error code.
And in answer to the other post.
i did mention about the fuel system but they seem to think that it wouldn't be that cause i figured it must be something to do with that.
but i dunno.
my KA has been in the garage for the past week.
and isn't any closer to being fixed.
its a nightmare!!!
