HELP: Worth fixing? or to scrap?

Hi, PROUD owner of a N reg fiesta Quartz. 19yr old single mum. And i have just been told to scrap my car as she is not worth fixing. *sob* She needs welding done on her sill (both sides) and its gna cost more than she is worth. M.O.T next month. Apart from that engine is perfect, starts every time, new handbrake cable. No problems at all. Great runner. Just seems such a waste of a good car. Any help would be appreciated, whether i can fix this at home myself, or if my friend (who is as good as a mechanic) can do something cheap to her? I really need her to pass M.O.T or im looking to have to buy a "new to me" car, which i cant afford. Thanks
Kati

Re: HELP: Worth fixing? or to scrap?

ask your mate if he can weld... if so it's worth doin!! if not then scrapping it n spending a few hundred on a car that's new to you might not be affordable to you right now, but you can always find cheap cars that have tax and an mot on them... even if it gets you by for 2more months that's 2months of saving more

Re: HELP: Worth fixing? or to scrap?

Dont waste good money on a car of that year ,especially after you have been advised it is not worth fixing . When you start welding sills it can go on and on chasing rust i.e inner sills , floor etc .etc . Then after doing that , it could die a death on the MOT for other parts like brakes , corroded pipes , wishbones ,emissions etc. etc . Your friend " who is as good as a mechanic " won't know the standards required to pass the test and wont be able to properly advise you of cost . I can't count the number of times I have had people bring in cars that they have spent money on , i. e fitting tyres , or new exhaust , or repairing bodywork to sub-standard ,thinking it would pass , only to be told that it was a failure. Not only a fail , but uneconomical to repair after spending £?? on car .Honestly , don't waste time and your hard earned cash on this car , best of luck .
