The locks on our KA have failed, the keys will lock the car, however, will no longer unlock it. If using the internal lock to lock the doors, they remain stuck in until several weeks of fiddling with them (normally my wife succeeds here!) they release. Have tried taking locks out and lubricating. Any help greatly received.
The problem may be in the latch (lots of plastic) and not the lock cylinder. If you disconnect the linkage from the lock and the key turns freely, then they are fine, and the latch is most likely the problem. Lubrication of the latch may help.
If the key turns freely, then the lock cylinder is not the problem and you either have the linkage disconnected or the latch is at fault. The door latch not only latches the door, but locks and unlocks the door.
My car did this. I stripped off the door facia and removed the latch. A small spring, visible when the plastic cover on the latch was removed, had broken...I stretched it out and remade a hook on the end and attached it again.. now working.
